COVID Antigen Rapid Test

COVID Antigen Rapid Test

What is a rapid antigen test and when is it used?

The rapid antigen test is suitable for finding out whether you, as the person being tested, are currently infectious.
Your test result is available within 15 minutes and must usually be performed by trained medical personnel. However, there are now also certified self-tests for home use that you can perform yourself.

How does a rapid antigen test work?

The swab is taken from the nasal or pharyngeal cavity.
A direct virus detection is carried out by detecting a virus component (antigen) and not the genetic material of the virus. In contrast to the PCR test, the evaluation can be carried out directly on site.

Good to know: rapid and self tests have a higher error rate compared to PCR tests. Therefore, after every positive rapid and self-test, a PCR test should always be done for confirmation.
